Gusto is one of the most popular HR software choices for small businesses, combining payroll, benefits administration, and basic HR tools into an affordable, easy-to-use package. The platform is particularly strong in its onboarding experience, allowing new employees to self-serve through most of the initial paperwork. Users often praise Gusto for its transparent pricing with no hidden fees, excellent payroll accuracy, and an intuitive interface that doesn't require HR expertise to navigate. However, some users have reported issues with customer support response times and difficulties resolving edge cases. The platform also has limited functionality for companies that outgrow the small business tier.

Excellent for Payroll, a Little Light on HR
Gusto has been a lifesaver for our small agency. As the de facto HR person, I needed something intuitive, and Gusto delivers. Running payroll is now a 10-minute task, not a half-day headache. The employee self-onboarding is fantastic – new hires can input their own details, which saves me a ton of data entry and reduces errors. The interface is clean and we've never had an issue with tax filings. My only small gripe is that the reporting capabilities are a bit basic. As we grow, I'd love to see more advanced options for analyzing workforce data without having to export to a spreadsheet. Still, for core payroll and HR, it's an excellent, reliable platform.
